DTS FTP Task "Unable to connect to internet"
If I go to the FTP site/subdirectory in IE all the files show up fine. I believe this is limitation of DTS, but I would like to hear from you all first.
To see what error I'm talking about:
Create a DTS FTP task
Use: ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/ with no username or password
Click the Files Tab
Normally you can just put the server name in, and see all the folders/files, but the way my FTP site is set up I cannot see the folder I want, I can only access it.What do you see in the Address field of the browser when you click on this site? Something like this?
ftp://<user_id>:<password>@.ftp_site.com
If this is the case then that's the reason why you can see files and folders using your browser vs. DTS package designer.
You NEED to specify user_id and password to access FTP sites unless they are set up to allow anonymous access.
Exception to it would be a setting on an FTP site where browsing is not allowed while accessing a specific file is. Consult with the FTP site admin.
DTS from AS 400 to Sql server
I need to transfer data from my source database which is Client Access iSeries AS 400
running DB 400 to my database in SQL Server 2000. Here is what I need to do -
There are files in the Production Enviornment on the DB 400. I need to connect to these files from my SQL Server 2000 database using DTS Wizard and tranfer these files into the tables of my SQL Server 2000 database. Can someone walk me through with the options on the source side of the DTS that I need to choose in order to connect to my AS 400 and get the data.
Thanks in anticipation.I'm assuming you mean DB2, not DB 400...

simply create a package where you do a lookup to get the last ID from a copy
of your table, then load the mysql database with a filter on the last ID,
then do the lookup again to get the last ID again and load the access table.
(store the lastid into a dts variable, and use it has a parameter for a
filter "select * from table where id > ?")
you'll have 1 copy of the table without duplicated IDs.
But regarding your configuration, you can directly merge information using
linked servers.
In SQL Server create 2 linked servers (1 to access 1 to mysql)
create a view like: select ... from mysql.db..table union select ... from
access...table
the union eliminate duplicated rows (but its a slow solution)
there is other solutions.

DTS Execute SQL task on Access linked table
I'm attempting to use a DTS Execute SQL task connected to Access1.mdb to make a new table in Access1.mdb that is using a Subquery from a linked table in Access2.mdb . (I know it sounds convoluded..) Its giving me an error in my FROM clause as if it can't recognize the linked table from Access2.mdb.
The reason why I'm doing this is that I'm not sure how to run an Access make table query from DTS that will overwrite the existing table in Access. I get an error that the table already exists.
Any Help? You can do testing in query analyzer by placing your select * from openquery statement. If it works in query analyzer then u could execute this sql statement in dts package.
By the way, since you are using DTS package, why not use MS Access connection which is more dynamic and stable than OpenQuery.

DTS Errors with Access?
I have a DTS package that when executed through Enterprise Manager works just fine.
I have an Access app on a different computer that executes the DTS package via VB using the syntax below. This process causes the DTS package to return an error of 'SQL Server Does Not Exist or Access Denied'.
I have tried both authentication types, not making a difference. I have used the SA login from Access and still get the error. All the necessary DTS drivers are installed on the second box and I can connect to the SQL tables succesfully also...
Any ideas? Thanks!
Private Sub cmd_MPSDTS_Click()
Dim oPackage As New DTS.Package
On Error GoTo eh
oPackage.LoadFromSQLServer "SVRName", "sa", "pwd", DTSSQLStgFlag_Default, "", "", "", "Pkg_Name", 0
'Execute the Package
oPackage.Execute

"Re-import Excel sheet."
'Clean up.
MsgBox ("Ran DTS Package")
Set oPackage = Nothing
Exit Sub
eh:
MsgBox Err.Description, vbCritical, _
"Error Running Package"
End SubI assume you have tried pinging the server from the machine with the access db? or rather from the machine that opens the access db.|||You should also check that the user you are executing as from Access is the same as the user that is executing from Enterprise Manager or at least has the same privileges.|||Not sure why that would make a difference (Not saying it wouldn't, I'm just not sure why it would). The error they are receiving makes it look as though they can't reach the server at all...|||Found the problem,
The DTS package imported information from an Informix database. The necessary drivers weren't installed on the second machine so the job failed even though I could connect to the SQL server just fine. I got around it by changing the code to execute a SQL Job which in turn executed the DTS package. This way it ran on the SQL server.
Thanks!
DTS error not configured for data access
How can I restore data access? You may need to allow other SQL servers to connect. In enterprise manager, right-click on the server and select properties. On the Connections tab, check the box in the Remote Servers frame "Allow other SQL Servers to connect remotely to this SQL Server using RPC".|||No good. Properties showed remote connection OK. I unchecked, rechecked and rebooted to make sure. same problem.|||Can you create a connection to the server in a new DTS package?
It may be that you have to recreate the Server Connections in the existing package(s).|||No. Fails for both new and existing packages. The rebuild was apparently caused by converting databases from another machine from Sql 6.5. After the conversion we saw some odd things showing in msdb and lost alerts, operators etc. I also saw some table structure changes. Even though we didn't include msdb it looked like stuff from 6.5's was showing up. This looks to be a repercussion related to that.
Waht I can't seem to find anywhere is any discussion of the error. DTS's error window says the source is OLE but gives no eror number|||Just to add to the fun, I ignored the error message and built the queries without the point & click junk. Package ran fine. So it looks like all I've lost the visual references to that server.sql
DTS Error involving Access
I have a DTS package that migrates data from Excel to Access to SQL Server. Before that occurs, at the very beginning, I have a delete script that deletes the existing data in the Access database. When I hit that first step, it gives me the error:
Microsoft JET Database Engine (-2147467259) - The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '<path to access .mdb>'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.
I checked the permissions and the account that the web site is running under (impersonated) has full permissions to the file. Also, I am running the web site on my machine, I'm triggering the DTS package through .NET code, the access database is on a file/print server, and the SQL Server is a separate machine.
I'm thinking that maybe the issue is that the access database is on a separate machine, but I'm not quite sure.
BrianHow exactly are you running the DTS package? Are you triggering a SQL Agent job, or some other way? The security context is different depending on how you are executing the package.
You might find this link to be helpful:INF: How to Run a DTS Package as a Scheduled Job.
Terri|||Through VB.NET code, using the DTS library. Also note that, when I kick it off manually, it works fine. I also can open up the access database with no problems.

DTS Error (ActiveX)
Hello,
I have a DTS package that has an ActiveX task. This task works with access to create databases and push out data to them. The problem is, I'm getting an error trying to establish a connection to the SQL Server database as such:
set objConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
I get this as a resolution:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;201740
But I wasn't sure since I'm not dealing with ASP. I'm trying to run the task as myself manually, not scheduled also, for testing purposes. Any ideas?
Thanks.

DTS Creation issue
Here is the problem : I can not create a DTS package in SQLServer.

Why can't i create single DTS package ? Strange, isn't it ?

DTS and MS Access Workgroup
I'm reposting it here.
I get an error message exporing a SQL table to an Access database (97 ver).
I'm joined to a workgroup so I supplied my Access acct and password in the
DTS wizard access and I got this error message below.
Error source: MS Access dtabase jet engine
Error description: Cannot start your application. The worgroup information
file is missing or opened exclusively by another user.
Context: Error during initialization of the provider
Thanks in advance for the help.Probably means someone else is using it in an exclusive mode.
Try testing it first. Copy the database ( if it's not too large ) to your
local machine, and try exporting there, see what happens.

DTS and "SQL Server does not exist or access denied"
.
The process starts a DTS package step (SQL Server 2000, Windows Server 2003
on both machines; both machines are in the same domain, behind our firewall)
that copies records from one server to another. For some reason, it returned
the "SQL Server does not exist or access denied" error. The problem started
abruptly on Dec 8, 2005.
I noticed after a while that the the process always died after the same
number of records, 3950 +- 3. On a whim, just for kicks, I went into debug
and ran the VB6 program that creates the DTS package and set the
InsertCommitSize to 100 (it had been zero), and this cleared up the error.
My questions are:
1) Has anyone else run into this?
2) It looks like something out there didn't like the size of the buffer I
sent to it. Does anyone know why?
3) Does the size of the BLOB have anything to do with this?
I'd appreciate any response I can get from anyone else who has run into
this, and what they may have done to fix it when they got it.hi Mike,
How odd! I've got about 600 dts running on day-to-day basis and neither of
them own that property to 100, always own zero. I experienced problems with
'Copy objects' task when source database own field with data type as 'text',
for example.

dts access to sql server express
the access db is on a different server then the sql server express. You could copy the Access file to the SQL Server computer before you start (which is what I'd recommend), or share the folder on the computer where the Access file is located and use a UNC path to reference the Access file (\\accesscomputer\sharename\accessfile.mdb).|||

Dts (ms Access To Ms Sql Server)
I have 10 tables in ms access.
currently what i am doing is ...
1) import data into ms sql server, hence creating 10 tables
2) i have 2 procedures which does some calculations (basically consolidation of data) based on 10 tables. And insert data or update data into 2 tables.
Can i automate this etl process..

consolidate and put the data into 2 ms sql server
I want this process to occur every weekends
Please guide if any body has done this kind of processNote: Ms Sql Server 2000|||Based on the title of the topic :), you've already found out that this kind of tasks can be easily done with DTS packages.
Please describe what problems do you have, as creating DTS packages for your case should be a pretty simple task: create package, add connection to MS Access, add one task to import data and another one to execute SPs, etc.|||1) I have a ms access 2000 database with tables a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j (10 tables)
2) I have 2 ms sql server 2000 procedure which retrieves data from all these tables, does some calculations, and insert or updates the rows in ms sql server table x and y
3) I have 2 ms sql server 2000 tables
The procedure works perfectly if these tables are ms sql server table and if I execute those procedures manually (i.e. execute pro_1...)
How do I automate it? (Using DTS)
(Note: I am new to SQL Server :-))|||1. Create required connections.
2. Create tasks to import 10 tables from MS Access to SQL Server (you will have to create 10 tables in MSSQL for storing imported data)
3. Create task(s) to execute stored procedures
4. If required - create task to cleanup the tables with imported data (you can do it from stored procedures).|||I dont want to import the data into MS SQL SERVER.
My MS Access tables are very big containing millions of records.
(Problem with importing: Table space will exceed the disk space!, so no question of importing)
Without importing the data into Sql Server.
How, my procedure can refer the 10 MS Access tables as source and put the resultant value into 2 MS Sql Server tables?
Or is there any alternative?|||You can add a linked server (see samples here ) or use one of the Rowset Functions in your stored procedures (consider using OpenQuery or OpenRowset Rowset Functions so that only aggregated data would be transmitted to SQL Server)|||Thanks...this sovled my problem.

DTS - import flat textfile into two separate tables
Because I came from the Access world, I created a macro that imports
it with a schema that gives meaningful names to the various columns,
and then uses a query to massage some of the data for me (deletes the
first blank row and does a couple of calculations)
Then I use DTS to import the Access query as a table.
the textfile has a column called "File_num", and among several others,
a column called "Serial_num". (the file numbers represent shipments,
and sometimes there are more than one serial number in the shipment,
etc., so there is a separate line for every serial number)
Naturally, I would like to split this info into two tables..one that
does not contain the serial numbers and has a primary key on the
"File_num" column, and another table that would contain just the
"File_num" and "Serial_num" columns. That way I could relate them
later...but most importantly, it will give me a table where I can use
the "File_num" as my primary key.
What would be the best way to import these two tables from one source
textfile? The other thing that gives me problems is that the text
file has no column names, and the first row is always blank.
I'm very new to SQL and DTS and would appreciate any direction.
Thanks,
Larry

A common technique is to import the source file directly into a staging
table, then transform the data using SQL. This is often easier than trying
to implement complex transformations in DTS itself. In your case, you could
do something like this:
insert into dbo.FileTable
(file_num, col1, col2, ...)
select file_num, col1, col2, ...
from dbo.StagingTable
insert into dbo.FileSerialTable
(file_num, serial_num)
select file_num, serial_num
from dbo.StagingTable

I'm using a DTS package to import data from a Access database to sql server. But the problem is the name of the database will be different all the time. Can I give the name of thedatabase dynamically from the front end.Is there any provision in sql server for that
Waiting fot the reply
thanx in advance

NebuPerhaps when you create a package that includes a dynamic properties task which sets the filename of the access connection prior its executing. However, you need a way to determine which filename is next. Perhaps a better alternative is to rename the access-database file instead and go on from that point.|||You could add an ActiveXScript Task to your DTS that uses the InputBox fucntion inVBScript. This would prompt you for a file name when you run the DTS package. You can then store the input in a package global var and use that via a Dynamic Properties task to set the file your data connector is pointing at.

More of an Oracle question really than SQL. I'm not the expert on Oracle, but I would gues that it has to do with schema ownership. Try qualifying the name of the table in the DTS package with the owner (usually the user id underwhich the table was created).
