DTS Error: Importing from Excel file to SQL Server 2000

Data for Source Column 15 'Notes' is too large for the specified buffer size.

How do I get around this, I can see some of the notes entries are beyond 255 chars so I changed the destination datatype totext

I have never seen this error when importing before. What do I do?

An error I've gotten way too much. Some things you can try:

- The Excel provider (JET) often makes assumptions based on the first 8 lines of the file, and sometimes that is the problem).
- Or you can save to comma separated or tab separated file format, and import that way.

Oftentimes, I cannot figure out the problem as well. I've tried posting before, but no answer. The only thing I come up with is to save to tab-delimited, and import that way.

Error Description: Data for source column 3 ("column_name") is too large for
the specified buffer size.
The destination column size is 500 in the table and the data in the import
file for that row and column is 280 characters.
Any ideas?

DTS distribution - LoadLibrary failed - the specified module could not be found

Hi,

i have a VB.net (2005) application that just runs a DTS package. I tried to install my application in a CLEAN XP computer (it means without any SQL2000 tools or DLLs, ONLY the .net framework 2.0).

When i try to register the dtpkg.dll and all the other dlls using regsvr32.exe i receive the error

"LoadLibrary("C:\program files\myapp\dtspkg.dll) failed - the specified module could not be found".

in C:\Windows\system there is the sqlunirl.dll

In C:\program files\myapp folder i have all the following DLLs:

sqlresld.dll

dtsffile.dll
dtspkg.dll
dtspump.dll
axscphst.dll
dtsrun.exe
sqlunirl.dll
custtask.dll

and in C:\program files\myapp\resources\1033 folder the RLLs

dtsffile.rll
dtspkg.rll
dtspump.rll

custtask.rll

axscphst.rll

dtsrun.rll

I followed step by step all the dts redistribution instructions as explained in this article

DTS Designer Error: The specified module could not be found

Hi folks
I am connecting to a SQL Server 2000 (SP3) from a client Enterprise
Manager. It connects to it, well.
But if I try to open an existing DTS package (located under Local
packages) it throws an error "DTS Designer Error The specified module
could not be found" and it closes.
Same error occurs if I try to open a .dts file also.
Your help is appreciated.

DTS Designer Error - Specified file not found

Hi there,

lately I had the following message on win2000 sp4 with sqlserver2000 sp3a: "DTS Designer Error - Specified file not found".
Then in the DTS editor the Task menu objects are missing and it is not possible to link a source and a target using Transform Data Task.

Before it used to work fine.

I have done the following:

- installing again last sp: same issue again
- reinstalling sqserver with a registry deep cleaning: same issue again
- started disabled windows services: same issue again

any idea?

If I uncheck the observe DST on the date/time control panel app then all is
OK.
Right now I have it off and adjusted the time manually.

well. If I come up with a resolution, I will post back. What SP are

Our sys admin had me look at this

but he updated the server with the update and we do not have SQL
Notification Services. So this was of no help to me but maybe it can

I also temporaily turned off the Windows Time service so it wouldn't re-sync
with our domain controller.

deal with time services. I don't have the KB article but it shouldn't be hard
to find at the MS website. FYI, if you have a Win 2000 server and don't have
an extended service contract with M$ they'll charge you $4000 for the patch
(I'm told). We have the extended service contract... We had the same problem
and this is how we fixed it.

(He mentions the $4000 charge; and that was for the DST patch).
I do not believe there is a RS patch, and according to KB931975 there is no
need for one. Conversely, they do mention a patch for SQL Notification
Services in that article.

Win2000 is not listed so I forwarded it to our server guys to see if we have

We're in the same boat, but we don't have the luxury of using the workaround
(in our infinite wisdom, we decided to install WRS on a domain controller),
and the only option open right now is migrating it to a new box where

server, the issue was resolved.
